If you are contacted by any company or agency offering accommodation for BISA's 2019 Annual Conference, please do not engage. This is a common scam for academic conferences, where unauthorised companies search the conference programme and use your public university contact details to claim to be from BISA and sell you accommodation or other services.
These companies are not authorised to represent BISA in any way.
Please on no account supply your personal or financial details over the telephone. These agencies DO NOT have access to any personal information other than what is in the conference programme. They are using your publically available university contact details to get in touch.
Please be aware that these unauthorised companies might not deliver what they promise in terms of quality and location. Rates and extra charges may be inflated or hefty fees placed on credit cards.
Deceptive tactics by may include:
Informing attendees and exhibitors that hotel rooms are sold-out and that if you do not book with them immediately, you may not get a room
Distributing forms or promotional materials that appear to be issued by BISA
Non-delivery of promises to customers; when customers arrive, reservations are sometimes non-existent or the hotels are not conveniently located
Illegally using BISA's name and/or logo to falsely represent themselves as being affiliated with us.
Please be vigilant.
