Plenary panel: 'Speaking Truth to Power: Academia and Policy'
Thursday 20th June 2013 6.00pm
In his plenary address to the BISA Annual Conference in 1995, Prof. William Wallace chided British IR for focusing too much on theoretical debates, and for failing to address the practical concerns of the real world. Wallace challenged his colleagues to engage with policy and thereby hold policymakers to account. Almost two decades on, we assemble a group of leading scholars, noted for the policy impact of their scholarship in security studies and political economy, to consider the track record, challenges and promise of academic engagement with policy.
Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman, King's College London
Professor Stephen M. Walt, Harvard University
Professor Nicola Philips, University of Sheffield
