Executive Committee


The BISA Executive Committee meets four times a year. It is made up of Trustees elected by the BISA membership alongside a number of individuals who have been co-opted in order to take on specialist roles. As BISA is a registered charity, its Trustees are legally responsible for the management and administration of the organisation. 
The work of the Executive is supported by a full-time Director and Administrator.

The Association has a board of trustees, known as the Executive committee, who are responsible for the Association’s governance and meet four times per year.
On the Executive committee, 12 members are nominated and elected for a two - three year terms of office by the members of the Association. From time to time additional members are co-opted onto the committee, including the postgraduate network chair. The Executive committee members’ expertise and interests represent the main areas of Association activity and bring a breadth of experience from the wider world.
The Executive committee members also form a number of  sub-committees that consider matters of strategy and implementation relating to their specific areas of expertise and which advise the Executive committee and operational staff. The Executive committee subcommittees currently include: Governance & Finance, Research, Publications, Learning and Teaching and Communication, Engagement and Policy.
Inclusion and Diversity is an overarching remit across all the committees and not treated as a separate matter.


Our Executive Committee, is our main governing body. The Exectuive Committee manages our income, funds and activities, according to our governing documents. Committee members come from a wide range of academic backgrounds and comprise of the four honorary officers, including the chair, and eight ordinary members.
Honorary officers
The Association's work is led by the honorary officers who work with members of staff in the national office. They include the chair, vice chair, honorary secretary and honorary treasurer they are responsible for key areas within the Assoicaiton. These officers take a strategic overview of  our charitable activites, develop the business direction, and consult members.
Members of the Executive Committee also meet in Sub-Committees to deal with specific aspects of charitable activity and policy.
