BISA Model NATO 2014

On September 5-6th 2014, the British International Studies Association organised a Model NATO with the participation of ten Sixth-Form colleges and Schools from Wales and England. The Model NATO was hosted by the University of South Wales and will took place in parallel with the actual NATO summit being held at the Celtic Manor hotel also in Newport. The Model replicated the debate and decision-making within the alliance and tackled the challenge of forging a final communique that covered a range of topical international issues. It also dealt with a rapidly-evolving crisis situation designed to test the political unity of the assembled delegates.

Model NATO will be supported by academic specialists drawn from BISA. It offered the students a unique opportunity to learn how NATO operates through debate and discussion in a real time, simulated environment. The event was complemented by key-note addresses and by engagement with visiting delegates of the Atlantic Council and others involved in the NATO summit.
Model NATO reflects BISAs commitment to promoting international studies among students. It was a great success and will hopefully leave a lasting impression upon the participants.
