IR Career Starters - September 2024

New month, new opportunities! I am happy to share a brand new edition of the IR Career Starters Newsletter. After a handful of years abroad, I am back in Northern Denmark and have a bit of downtime before seeking out into the world. This naturally leaves more space for updating the newsletter and engaging in various lectures and projects.
The IR job market is getting back into gear once again, and in the coming months, we can expect it to normalise and already see an uptick in opportunities. Still, starting a career in IR remains a challenge, and while some might have fantastic luck securing a position, others might struggle despite their best efforts. I come across many who are surprised by the harsh reality and for whom guidance on entering the job market has been more focused on the private sector than the public sector. While challenging, it is by no means impossible, so doing the hard groundwork of building a repository of organisations (with attractive opportunities), upskilling and polishing off CV/Cover Letter skills remain valid, so be sure to check mine and others guides on how to address these challenges!
I recently gave a lecture for participants in the International Community NGOs project #ICExploreEU on European Security and the many challenges it faces. Next week, I continue with a career-specific session for those seeking to kick off a career in IR.
