Safeguarding policy

BISA is committed to prioritising the wellbeing of all adults and children over the age of 16 at risk, promoting safeguarding at all times at all its events and online programmes. We strive to minimise risk, deliver a positive scholarly and educational experience for everyone and respond appropriately to all safeguarding concerns.

BISA’s safeguarding aims to:

  1. Create a safe and positive environment for all adults and children over the age of 16 involved in BISA and its events, wherever they may be, ensuring they are protected from maltreatment, abuse or harm in all its forms.
  2. Develop a culture whereby safeguarding practice is widely understood and that all individuals involved in BISA whether they be trustees, staff or members are aware of their responsibilities with regard to safeguarding and comply with the law, regulations and establish good practice.
  3. Ensure a clear framework for reporting concerns is in place, and that any concerns be taken seriously and referred onward where appropriate. See our complaints procedure.

The policy lays out the commitments made by BISA, and informs staff, trustees, members and associated personnel of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding.

This policy does not cover:

  • Sexual harassment and discrimination – this is dealt with under our code of conduct and the equality and diversity policy.

  • Safeguarding concerns in the wider community not perpetrated by BISA or associated personnel.
