BISA awarded Academy of Social Sciences funding to support EDI initiatives

This article was published on

We are thrilled to have been awarded funding from the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS), supported by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), to take forward our equality, diversity and inclusion. The AcSS’ EDI Project aims to encourage and facilitate greater awareness of, and actions to support, EDI across social science learned societies in the wider community.

In BISA’s case, the funding will be used to implement two key aspects of our EDI strategy – improving the website accessibility for all users, and monitoring/supporting the diversity of applications to, and awarding of, our BISA prizes and grants. It is hoped this can also be extended to other areas of application. Both project streams will move BISA EDI strategy implementation forward significantly.

Juliet Dryden, BISA Director/CEO said:

“This is wonderful news and we are absolutely delighted as the grant money will enable us to continue implementing our EDI strategy. BISA has placed a strong focus on improving all aspects of EDI over the past few years, and the two project streams to be funded will drive us forward significantly in the areas of accessibility and diversity. Both projects have transferability and scalability, so we look forward to sharing them with the learned society community once complete.”

At the end of the funding period, all funded societies will provide reports and guidance that can be shared with the wider community as best practice and lessons learned.
