In this café, we are considering the topic of ‘UN-AU peacekeeping partnerships in African conflicts’. This virtual café will take the form of a facilitated roundtable conversations where academics and early career researchers can share their work, views and experiences on peacekeeping interventions in Africa over coffee, and tea.
The following are some questions to consider:
- To what extent has the principle of subsidiarity worked in the UN-AU partnership in peacekeeping interventions in Africa? What are some of the successes and failures?
- Do the RECs have a role to play in the AU-UN peacekeeping partnership?
- What is the future of such peacekeeping partnerships in African conflicts?
As a primer, please take a look at the recent publication on “UN Support to African Union–Led Peace Support Operations: What Next for Resolution 2719?” by Bitania Tadesse and Jenna Russo of the International Peace Institute (IPI). We hope this event will be the start of interesting conversations around our different experiences and work.
Registration will close two hours before the event begins.
