‘Abstraction, Fiction and the Media in International Ethics Teaching’.

We are looking for participants for a roundtable titled ‘Abstraction, Fiction and the Media in International Ethics Teaching’ to be held at 2017 BISA conference in Brighton.

The panel will explore the utility of using abstract, fictional and ‘real life’ examples in the teaching of international ethics, and consider the challenges the use of such examples poses. Challenges include the extent to which any of the three types of examples tell us anything useful about real ethical problems, the costs and benefits of accessing examples in various medias – in particular print, film and images, and the effects on students and teachers of exposure to distressing materials.
