Rethinking methodologies in international relations: towards an interdisciplinary approach using randomised control trials
Organisers – Dr Tarela Ike and Dr Lesley Masters (Convenor and Co-Convenor African and International Studies working group)
In the ever-evolving landscape of international relations in Africa there is a need for interdisciplinary research perspectives informed by evidence-based design. Yet, there is limited emphasis on the use of experimental design in examining interventions, assessing what works and the ways forward to inform gaps and better policies. This session aims to introduce attendees to creative methodologies such as experimental designs and the basics of randomised control trials (RCTs). This will be is useful for those interested in research on peacekeeping, and international relations policies affecting the continent. The session will address the types of research questions appropriate for RCTs, what is required to conduct and design an RCT study among others.
