Astropolitics Working Group Mission Statement

The Astropolitics Working Group (AWG) seeks to bring together scholars working on the politics of outer space. In this nascent field, we support, develop, and enrich research in studying the international politics of space from the multitude of approaches within International Studies. We want the AWG to help scholars develop research connections with others working on outer space from any approach we can call ‘political’. As a subject closely linked to industrial, private, military, and government interests and policy, we think it is extremely important that academia step up its efforts to develop a wider community of credible, expert space scholars who can interrogate the politics of space in the traditions of independent scholarship. We hope the AWG makes a valuable contribution in this goal.
