Emotions in Politics and International Relations seminar series: ' Nostalgic Virility as a Cause of War'

The Emotions in Politics and IR Working Group are hosting our first research seminar of the term, which features a talk from Matthieu Grandpierron (Catholic University of Vendée) on his recently published book, Nostalgic Virility as a Cause of War How Leaders of Great Powers Cope with Status Decline (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2024). This book argues that world leaders react to status decline by going to war, guided by a nostalgic, virile understanding of what it means to be powerful.
