BISA Ethics and World Politics Research Workshop
We are very pleased to invite you to our upcoming BISA Ethics and World Politics event, which will feature a workshop and lecture exploring critical approaches to global justice. The event is co-sponsored by the Theory Lab in the School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London. Details are provided below.
Confronting Injustice: critical and realistic approaches to global inequality
The BISA Ethics and World Politics working group and Queen Mary’s Theory Lab are delighted to sponsor a half-day workshop looking on critical and realistic approaches to global justice. Global injustice persists despite considerable public attention, numerous government and charitable initiatives, and a voluminous academic literature. The intractable nature of the problem of global injustice provides good reason to think that something has gone wrong in how we understand justice and the political action taken to address it. In this workshop three eminent scholars will explore how we might approach the pursuit of global justice in ways that are both critical and realistic in their pursuit of a better world.
Speakers:
Prof Michael Goodhart, University of Pittsburgh
Prof Katrin Flikschuh, London School of Economics and Political Science
Dr Simon Reid-Henry, Queen Mary University of London
The event will start at 12.30 and feature papers from Dr Reid-Henry and Prof Flickschuh in the afternoon, and a evening lecture from Prof Goodhart, with responses from Prof Flikschuh and Dr Reid-Henry. A drinks reception will follow.
We are able to offer travel bursaries to working group members who would like to attend, priority will be given to PhD students and members without permanent positions but all members are eligible to apply.
