Introducing the Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding Working Group conveners
The Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding Working Group was established in March 2018 to provide a space for International Studies researchers to develop their work on the various aspects of peacekeeping and peacebuilding. Here we introduce you to the conveners who have made this group a success.
Dr Georgina Holmes
Georgina Holmes is a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Reading. Her research explores the development of gender mainstreaming as a policy frame in global governance and peacekeeping, norm implementation dynamics, gender and Security Sector Reform, and the training and deployment of male and female uniformed peacekeepers. She has published in several peer reviewed academic journals including Millennium: Journal of International Studies, Security Dialogue and International Peacekeeping. She is the author of Women and War in Rwanda: Genocide, Media and the Representation of Genocide (2013, I.B Tauris). Find out more about Georgina on her institutional profile.
Dr David Curran
David Curran is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations, Coventry University (UK). David’s primary research investigates the interaction between the fields of conflict resolution and military peacekeeping, which is the topic of his monograph entitled 'More than Fighting for Peace?: Conflict Resolution, UN Peacekeeping, and the Role of Training Military Personnel’. David has also published on the evolution of peacekeeping doctrine, as well as undertaking research into the United Kingdom’s relationship with UN peacekeeping. His recent publications include: “Muddling on through? Cosmopolitan peacekeeping and the protection of civilians” (International Peacekeeping, 2017); The United Kingdom and United Nations peace operations” (with Paul D. Williams, International Peacekeeping, 2017); “Perspectives on Peacekeeping and Atrocity Prevention—Expanding Stakeholders and Regional Arrangements” (co-editor, Springer, 2015); “Resonating, Rejecting, Reinterpreting: Mapping the Stabilisation Discourse in the United Nations Security Council, 2000–2014” (with Paul Holtom, Stability Journal, 2015). Dr Philip Cunliffe
Philip Cunliffe is Senior Lecturer in International Conflict at the University of Kent. His research explores the pathologies and inadvertent consequences of humanitarian intervention and liberal conflict management since the end of the Cold War. His work has been published in Review of International Studies and European Journal of International Relations among other places. He is the author of Legions of Peace: UN Peacekeepers from the Global South (Hurst, 2013). You can find out more about Philip on his institutional profile.
Sabrina White - Postgraduate representative
Sabrina White is a PhD Student in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Leeds. Her research focuses on sexual exploitation and sexual abuse in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, and her ESRC-funded project is collaborative with the United Nations Association in the UK (UNA-UK). Previously, she taught various modules in International Relations at Regent’s University London, where she also ran the Model United Nations programme. She also worked in development for various NGOs and diplomacy training for military personnel across Europe.
