Feminist encounters in statebuilding: The role of women in making the state in Kosovo

This event will be in zoom
-

The BISA South East Europe Working Group is proud to co-host, together with the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), a virtual book launch of the recently published edited volume 'Feminist Encounters in Statebuilding: The Role of Women in Making the State in Kosovo'. The book, co-edited by Dr Vjosa Musliu and Dr Itziar Mujika Chao provides one of the first comprehensive feminist readings of international statebuilding, with a specific focus on the case of Kosovo. Rather than simply showing how the state in Kosovo is being built by and through women and feminist encounters, this volume problematises women and feminist subjectivities vis-à-vis the state and statebuilding. In doing so, the aim of the volume is to reconsider the evidence against the backdrop of everyday manifestations and/or performances of statebuilding and at the same time, interrogate the co-constitutive gender aspect. Ultimately, the book invites us to rethink "what kind of a state is being built, contested and (re)negotiated through feminist encounters.” At this event, the editors of the volume — Dr Vjosa Musliu and Dr Itziar Mujika Chao — will be in conversation with Dr Piro Rexhepi, a research fellow at UCL SSEES, and Dr Elena Stavrevska, a lecturer at the University of Bristol.
