IR Career Starters - June 2024

The summer is slowly starting, and with it, one of our biannual slumps on recruitment in international affairs. While June remains active, the coming few months will likely see a slowdown in terms of opportunities. While this might be rough, it is a good excuse to integrate a bit of self-care into your schedule and use the opportunity to mentally recharge and refocus efforts, polish off CVs, and update LinkedIn profiles.
Right now, the market is still quite ok, so I can share just over 300 relevant opportunities in international affairs, as always, spread out across the various niches and subdomains of international affairs.
At the time of publishing, I am wrapping up a great week attending the #BISA2024 Conference in Birmingham and the Postgraduate and Early-Career Development Day 2024.
I have had the pleasure of talking about my entry into the international affairs domain and non-academic routes in general and reflecting a bit on how a PhD can add something quite unique to your professional profile, even when stepping out of academia. For anyone interested in this topic, I wrote an article about this for the British International Studies Association a few years back.
I also have a chance to talk a bit about subject matter while here, being kindly invited to join two separate roundtables on "The Ukraine War and the Re-making of Europe's Security Order" and later today on "Rethinking stabilisation and responding to transnational threats." So, really, it's been the best of both worlds, naturally, also with a high degree of great networking and the truly daunting level of scholars and experts attending.
