Nominations for International Politics of Migration, Refugees and Diaspora committee
On 30 July 2020 the International Politics of Migration, Refugees, and Diasporas (IPMRD) Working Group will hold their Annual Business Meeting (ABM) where they will elect a number of new personnel:

Chair
1. Christian Kaunert

Prof Christian Kaunert is Chair of Policing and Security, as well as Director of the International Centre for Policing and Security at the University of South Wales. Previously, he served as Academic Director and Professor at the Institute for European Studies, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, a Professor of International Politics, and the Director of the European Institute for Security and Justice, a Jean Monnet Centre for Excellence, at the University of Dundee. Christian holds a PhD in International Politics & an MSc in European Politics from the University of Wales Aberystwyth, a BA (Hons) European Business from Dublin City University, Ireland.
Christian has worked for many years on refugees and security internationally. His book ‘Refugees, Security and the EU’ (with Prof Sarah Leonard) was published in 2019 with Routledge (UACES/Routledge Series). He has published many more works on refugees, notably in Refugee Survey Quarterly, International Migration, Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, and others. He (together with Dr Valeria Bello) is also the Convenor of the Standing Group on Migration of the European International Studies Association. During his term as Chair of the BISA working group on IPMRD, he intends to increase collaboration between the sister organisations and to organize joint panels at BISA and EISA events for members of both working groups, alongside additional conferences for BISA IPMRD members. He also wants to explore the potential for a journal on IPMRD as an outlet for its members, co-sponsored by both BISA and EISA. Prof Kaunert is also Chair of the Special Interest section of EUSA on the AFSJ, which includes refugee matters. Christian wants to underline the importance of analyzing migration, refugee and diaspora matters in a post-Brexit environment.
Secretary
1. Foteini Kalantzi

Foteini Kalantzi is the A.G. Leventis Research Officer at the Diaspora Project in SEESOX, St Antony’s College, University of Oxford. Her work focuses on the Greek state – diaspora relationship in the context of the economic crisis. Foteini’s work also includes research on securitisation of migration in Europe, with a focus on Greece.
She is the coordinator for the development of the Greek Diaspora Digital Map. She is one of researchers in the ‘Migration Diplomacy and Turkish-EU relations’ project of the Oxford-Berlin Research Partnership. Also, she is the secretary of the ‘International Politics of Migration, Refugees and Diaspora’ working group of British International Studies Association.
She received her PhD in International Relations from University of Macedonia, Greece and carried out part of her research in Freie Universität Berlin. She holds an MA in International Political Economy from University of Warwick, UK, a BA in International and European Relations from Panteion University, Athens and a BSc in Economics from University of La Verne, California. She has teaching experience in International and European Relations, Economics and Ethics in social media at the Department of International Relations of Université de Strasbourg at City Unity College in Athens. Her research interests include migration, political and media discourse analysis, Greek political affairs and European integration. She has been a research associate at the Hellenic Centre for European Studies (EKEM), and at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP). She has also worked as a freelance journalist at several newspapers and magazines, reporting on financial and political developments in Europe.
During her term as a secretary of the BISA working group on IPMRD, she intends to continue her effort from the previous term, mainly on building a strong network of academics working on migration and diaspora. The facilitation of this goal would be through events, such as workshops for developing new ideas and projects, i.e. special issues. She would be also interested into putting the foundations for the creation of a new journal dedicated to the goals of IPMRD.

1. Marilena Anastasopoulou

Marilena Anastasopoulou is a research associate at the Diaspora Project at the South East European Studies at Oxford (SEESOX), an Onassis Foundation Scholar, and a DPhil student in the Faculty of History at the University of Oxford. Her doctoral research focuses on family memories of forced displacement, their intergenerational transmission, and the way people with these family memories think about subsequent migration. She holds an MSc degree in Migration Studies from the University of Oxford and a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Athens, from which she graduated as the valedictorian. She has worked as a researcher at the Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR), University of Oxford, at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), and at the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has teaching experience in Modern History in the Faculty of History at the University of Oxford. Her research and publications focus on issues of political discourse, right-wing extremism, migration policy implementation, forced displacement, and diaspora.
Her aspiration to serve as the Postgraduate committee member in the International Politics of Migration, Refugees, and Diasporas (IPMRD) Working Group stems from her genuine interest to contribute to the enhancement of an active and leading voice on issues of migration and international politics in the UK and abroad. Towards this goal, she will combine her academic background, network, and working experience in the field through workshops, new ideas, and synergies to further promote the creation of a fertile ground for rigorous discussions and papers from various perspectives.
